On November 26th and 27th, 2024, the University of Maribor Library and the Rectorate of the University of Maribor welcomed over 100 representatives of research libraries from across Europe to the 2024 LIBER Winter Event.

This annual gathering provided an excellent platform for professionals in research libraries to exchange ideas, collaborate, and explore innovative ways to address the challenges facing libraries today.

Engaging sessions and workshops

Over two days, attendees participated in interactive workshops and discussions addressing crucial topics such as innovation in library services through collaboration and community engagement, enhancing discoverability of open educational resources, and promoting open access and scholarly communication practices. These sessions allowed participants to learn, share, and collaboratively shape solutions to key issues in the field of research libraries.

Thought-provoking keynote

Dr Dan Podjed, a senior researcher and academic, delivered an inspiring keynote on “The relevance of the book in the age of digital transformation,” sparking conversations about the evolving role of libraries in the digital age.

Networking and cultural experiences

The event balanced professional development with opportunities for connection and cultural immersion. Attendees enjoyed a gala dinner at the Slovene National Theatre Maribor and visited the Old Vine House, offering a glimpse into the rich heritage of Maribor.

A platform for collaboration

With the theme, “Expanding Horizons: Research Libraries and Social Engagement,” the event reinforced LIBER’s mission to support collaboration and innovation within the library community. Participants left with new insights, connections, and inspiration to drive impactful change in their institutions.
